Master of Business AdministrationDegree Description The MBA is a 36-credit, non-traditional, computer-enhanced, graduate degree program designed with the working professional in mind. The main goal of the MBA program is to develop the broad management analysis, synthesis, and leadership skills required for middle- and upper-level management. As a professional degree program, much of the MBA course work stems from the disciplines of management science, marketing, finance, and accounting. Due to the intensive nature of the advanced economics, statistics, finance, and accounting courses, MBA degree applicants must demonstrate appropriate levels of knowledge in these areas or take undergraduate-level prerequisites. Other topics of study in the MBA curriculum include quantitative analysis, operations management, organizational behavior, legal and ethical issues, human resource management, and global business policy and strategy. In the final course, Capstone: Global Business Policy and Strategy, students apply theoretical knowledge to the analysis of global business problems. Using case study methods, students examine the development, implementation, and reformation of a global business strategy. In addition, students select a problem or concern related to coursework throughout the MBA degree program, and to their own professional responsibilities, and research literature based on similar situations, evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution for the selected challenge. The resultant Capstone Paper and defense of the research, through an oral presentation, demonstrates the integration of professional and academic accomplishments. Master of Science in ManagementDegree Description The 33-credit Master of Science in Management (MSM) degree program focuses on the emerging field of the development of organizations. Students explore in depth basic management functions and learn how effective leadership can encourage the achievement of organizational objectives. Dealing with individual and group behaviors within an organization, the core curriculum focuses on human resource management as it contributes to productivity, quality, and achieving organizational objectives. Students learn the dynamics of team work, participate in a community service project, and apply statistical tools in the analysis of data which support quality effectiveness initiatives. A major component of the program is the exploration of ethical and social issues that students may encounter as managers. The program also acquaints students with the language, concepts, and tools of accounting and finance, and enables them to develop skills and concepts needed to manage information technology effectively and efficiently. Applied case studies enable students to think critically and creatively about implementing management strategies in a changing environment. Exercises also engage students in problem-solving and decision making in developing and facing entrepreneurial opportunities for competitive advantage and organizational success. In the final course, using the case study method, students integrate concepts learned throughout the MSM degree program and learn to apply analytical techniques to address challenges and opportunities faced by organizations in an environment of constant change. |
